Environmental Responsibility
Allegheny Printed Plastics is committed to protecting the environment and minimizing the resources used in the manufacturing process through continuous improvement. To achieve these goals, we not only comply with relevant environmental legislation but actively seek ways to improve our processes to safeguard against an adverse environmental impact.
Recycling and Waste Reduction:
- Reclaiming production material waste by recycling several hundred tons of PVC, aluminum plate and cardboard scrap each month.
- Sorting and returning select PVC web scrap to our supplier for conversion into new PVC sheets containing recycled material.
- Recycling worn press rollers by replacing the rubber, eliminating additional waste disposal.
- Recycling employee aluminum and plastic beverage containers. All of our restroom tissue and paper towels are 100% post consumer recycled paper.
- Reducing internal paper usage by adopting electronic daily and monthly reports.
Energy Efficiency:
- Installation of new energy efficient lighting utilizing long life, lower wattage bulbs.
- Installation of new more energy efficient air conditioning units with higher Seer ratings and economizers that circulate outside cool air in moderate temperature months.
- Installation of new better insulated and tinted windows.
- Upgrading our compressed air system to minimize pressure losses by repairing distribution leaks, installing more efficient filters, demand actuated condensate drains, and point of use tanks for air storage.
- Ducting waste heat from air compressors and chillers into the plant during winter months.
Maintaining Clean Air and Water:
- Minimizing water used/wasted by installing a reverse osmosis water processing system that supplies water to a fountain solution tank that feeds each printing press.
- Installation of a more efficient closed loop oil heat system for lamination replacing steam.
- Installing a compressed air condensate oil water separator to collect waste oil for proper disposal.
- Maintaining clean air by ensuring proper hazardous chemical disposal and replacement.
